Every working bench jeweler knows that repair is rarely simple. Worn prongs, brittle shanks, fragile heirlooms, unrealistic expectations, time pressure, thin margins. Most benches are carrying more repair volume than they should, with little room for error.

This session takes a direct look at the daily realities of managing repair work and how to stay on top of both the work and your own standards. Attendees will learn how to evaluate repair through the lens of time, risk, and margin. When does it make sense to repair older worn jewelry, and when is remaking the responsible call? How do you price for the actual labor and liability involved? How do you keep repair from overwhelming your bench schedule? How do you protect quality when the clock is always working against you?

We will also address the internal dynamics that affect repair outcomes. Sales teams often do not understand what proper repair requires. When intake is rushed or overpromised, the bench absorbs the consequences. Clear communication from the bench, better intake standards, and defined boundaries help stabilize estimates, protect margins, and reduce unnecessary frustration. The goal of this session is to give working jewelers tools to manage repair volume effectively, maintain craftsmanship under pressure, and turn a demanding part of the job into a controlled and dependable source of revenue.

About us

The Atlanta Jewelry Show was founded on a simple but powerful idea ...
A trade show should serve the people who make it possible.

From its earliest days, the Southern Jewelry Travelers Association, a 501(c)(6) nonprofit, set out to create a show where every decision would contribute to the shared success of jewelers, manufacturers, and sales professionals across the Southeast. It was built not as a commercial enterprise, but as a community investment in the future of the jewelry industry.
